Kalashnikov’s Museum is the museum where people can learn about the life of the famous gunmaker, Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov, the creator of the worldwide known gun and the honorable resident of Izhevsk. There is a great exhibition of ancient and modern weapons in the museum.
National museum introduces its visitors with the history of Udmurt Republic and Izhevsk. There is also a chance to try on weaving on an ancient loom and to make a tablecloth or a towel.
Trip to Votkinsk
Votkinsk is a small town not far from the capital of Udmurt Republic, Izhevsk. It is home to a Tchaikovsky Museum that was once the house in which Peter Tchaikovsky, a great Russian and and a world-famous composer, was born and spent his early childhood. The museum also illustrates what life was like for upper-class citizens in the 19th century.
In addition, UdSU has a good tradition to organize meetings of its international students with the students of the UdSU branch in Votkinsk.
Museum of Architecture and Ethnography «Ludorvay»
It is an open-air museum situated in a picturesque place in the neighborhood of Izhevsk (10 kilometers to the south-east from the city). The museum gives a view of the ancient Udmurts’ countryside life. It is a model of a typical Udmurt village with farmers’ houses, a family pagan sanctuary, an ancient windmill, backyards, stables etc. The museum conveys the atmosphere of a real inhabited village of the old times. Visitors can see how the farmers used to work during the haymaking season or harvesting. Here the visitors are demonstrated traditions and various trades of the Udmurts (bee-farming, smithery, arts and crafts).
In this museum shop visitors can also buy various souvenirs.
Igra Area Studies Museum
A 1-day tour includes visiting of the following places:
- A museum in Bakcheevo village which demostrates a prison of the tsarist Russia for life convicts in transit who were kept here before sending them to Siberia.
- Udmurt Culture Center in Sundur village representing an open-air museum which features traditions and the culture of the northern Udmurts.
- Center of Arts and Crafts with workshops of wicker-work, woodcarving or birch bark work.
