About FacultyGeneral InformationThe Institute of Economics and Management is a major provider of economic education, both in the Udmurt Republic and in Russia. Established as the Faculty of Economics in 1972 and transformed into the Institute of Economics and Management in 1997, today it is a very large and diverse institution offering a wide range of courses and research opportunities whether full or part-time at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Among its structural subdivisions are Higher Education Department, Further Education department, Professional Education Unit, A-level Preparation Unit, Educational and Technical Services, Research Laboratories, Dissertation Board. The Institute is well resourced with facilities to support students. These include two computer suites with access to Internet, extensive specialist library, multimedia resources. The quality of teaching process is continually enhanced through courses for teacher professional updating and participation of the leading lecturers from other universities.In terms of student numbers, the Institute of Economics and Management is one of the largest in the University. There are currently 832 full-time and 439 part-time students. Further … students are taking postgraduate course. In 2010 the Institute intends to introduce baccalaureate course in Economics, Management and Business computer science. A well-qualified and experienced team of academic staff working in 11 departments includes 6 Doctors of Economics and 41 Candidates. The span of courses is designed to meet the needs of students aiming for a wide range of business-related careers. It offers full-time five-year courses in: `International Business`, `Municipal Economy`, `State and Municipal Economy`, `Finance and Credit`, `Economics of Labour`, `Commerce", "Trade and Food Service Management`, `Management`, `Management with Sport Studies`, `Sociology of Labour`, `Human Resource Management`, `Banking`, `Taxation`, `Accounting and audit`, `National Economy`.The Institute welcomes applicants for postgraduate courses on a full and part time basis leading to Candidate Degree in economics. In 1997 the Students Placement Unit was formed to provide students` work placement. In 2006 the IEM hosted the trainee from Tokio University, Japan for two — month internship.The Institute has a busy conference programme. It annually holds students` academic conferences and takes pride in the achievements of its undergraduates at national conferences and competitions which focus on economics and finance-related disciplines. The Institute is the base for Presidential Management Training Initiative programme successfully completed by many senior and middle-level managers working at different regional enterprises. The Institute has developed extensive international links. Among its partners are European universities as well as educational centers in the USA and Canada. A-level Preparation Unit based within the Institute aims to provide necessary foundation for those wishing to join it as a student. In addition to academic subjects necessary to meet entry requirements, applicants are supported with careers guidance. Up to 90% of those following the preparation courses become part of the student population.The graduates are well-equipped with the vocational and academic background to enter the wide world of business. They can expect excellent job prospects in industry, commerce and the public sector. The best qualified graduates can be found occupying managerial posts in federal, regional and municipal institutions, banks, finance houses, taxation departments and other relevant organizations.Over the past 30 years the Institute has enjoyed the high profile and high demand among school leavers and applicants.The Institute welcomes applicants for postgraduate courses leading to candidate degree in Economics. Graduate and postgraduate students of the Institute actively participate in Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window - Triple I. International RelationsThe increasing internationalization of business activities is one of the most significant factors influencing economics. The Institute of Economics was involved into a number of international projects with European Universities, educational centres and professional bodies in Canada and the USA. The Institute of Economics has extensive links with Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and Bochum Hochshule in Germany. These three partner universities were involved into the TEMPUS project in 1998–2001. The outcomes of the project resulted in setting up the Anti-Crisis Centre at the Institute of Economics and Management, where the Institute lecturers provide courses and programmes for professional qualifications as well as the consultancy for outside clients of Udmurt Republic. The Institute host exchange students from Korea, Spain, Germany, Finland, Vietnam, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS countries).The Institute students are participating in exchange programmes with South Korean University at Keymung, Granada University in Spain, Helsinki University in Finland, Luneburg University in Germany, the University of Algarve in Portugal. The Institute is seeking the partners for joint academic and research projects in any area of business and business related fields. We are open for cooperation. In 2007 The Institute welcomed a visit of two professor from Fox Business school, Philadelphia, the USA. Now we are disscussing the prospectives for the joint research in the field of management. |
