History of the Spanish Language and Culture Centre(SLCC)

The idea to create a Centre emerged within the framework of the agreement about cooperation between Granada and Udmurt State Universities. The Centre was founded on October, 7, 1998 and this event coincided with the visit of the Spanish embassy attache for culture,senor Juan Jose Herrera de la Muel. Originally the Centre carried out language courses, basically, at the Institute of Economics and Management. Gradually the amount of students increased, therefore activity of the Centre extended: by summer 2000 it was cooperating almost with all the faculties of UdSU and its branch in Tchaikovsky. Besides the Centre renders service to all citizens of Izhevsk and Udmurt Republic. One of the Centre`s priorities remains distribution of Spanish culture in Udmurtia and gaining the status of the republican center.

Principal directions of our work are:

• Conducting intensive courses of Spanish language;
• Organization of cultural and entertaining activities;
• Organization of various conferences;
• Carrying out open lessons at schools of Izhevsk with participation of Spanish students studying in UdSU;
• Organization of sports events with participation of the sportsmen from the Pedagogical Faculty of Physical Training of UdSU and Granada university;
• Establishment of cooperation with other High Schools and language schools of Spain for the purpose of extension of cultural communications;
• Cooperation with the Spanish charitable foundations working in Russia;
• Rendering consulting service to the population of Udmurt Republic on issues of Spanish language, culture, etc.;
• Assistance in the organization of scientific projects between the universities of Granada and Udmurtia; Carrying out various cultural, entertaining and scientific programs with assistance of faculties and centers of leading High Schools, general educational and specialized educational institutions of UR;
• Strengthening and expansion of cultural communications with Spanish Embassy in Moscow;
• Cooperation with Centres of Slavonic Culture in Spain;
• Assistance in edition of special literature on life and culture of Spain;
• Assistance in aquiring cultural communications with the Latin America countries.
