History

Udmurt State University, the oldest and the most prestigious educational institution in Udmurt Republic, is a direct successor of Udmurt State Pedagogical Institute, founded in 1931. For 75 years UdSPI-UdSU has had a long and difficult way, its history is closely connected with development of high education and also social, economical and political processes in Russia.

There can be marked out two main periods in history of Udmurt State Pedagogical Institute: before and after the Second World War. For the first so called organizational period it had been prepared skilled and material potential of the institute, also determined educational and research activity. Other words UdSPI had already became a high educational institution.

After the war UdSPI developed actively basic quality figures: skilled, material, research, training of specialists. Consequently in 1958 UdSPI got higher second category with right of training its own candidates of science. To the end of this period Udmurt State Pedagogical Institute was one of the best ten in its category.

On 19th of April 1971 Udmurt State Pedagogical Institute was reorganized by order number 323 of Ministry of high and secondary education into Udmurt State University. In this way the new institution had to solve many problems concerned educational plans, academic staff and material bases.

In history of UdSU it can be marked out two periods: also organizational (1972 - middle 80th) and active development's and 'blossom' period (second half of 80th - first half 90th). For the first period Udmurt State University dealt with solving already called problems, changed its educational process following university standarts. So the university was acknowledged on country level.

In the second period there were increased quantitative and qualitative characteristics of UdSU. Political and economical circumstances in 90th made the university find new ways and principles of organization of research and educational activity. As a result it was intensified scientific and skilled potential of UdSU, educational process was reorganized according to world standarts, the university integrated into world scientific educational area. UdSU became one of the best high educational institutions in Russia in general exponents. After state attestation in 1993 UdSU took place in 20th best classical universities in Russia. Since then UdSU has been on 14 till 16 places from 64 in rating of classical universities.

Educational and research achievements let the university become a member of various international organizations: International association of universities, Confederation european rectors, International association of political sciences, International associationof university rectors, International confederation student' tourism 13 TC. Specialists of UdSU are represented in editorial staff of prestigious international scientific publications: 'Protection of metalls', 'Surface', 'Linguistica Uralica' etc.
