UniversityUdmurt State University is a large scientific, educational and cultural center of Udmurt Republic. The university contributes to the development of friendly relations of people of different nationalities, studying at the university and living in the Republic. Udmurt State University celebrated its 75 jubilee in 2006. It is the oldest and the most prestigious educational institution in Udmurt Republic. All this time UdSU has been following the conception of classical university, uniting natural scientific, historical, philological, economical, legal, culturalogical, social and engineering specialities and directions of training specialists. For the last decades the development strategy of UdSU has been determined by three general principles: introduction of the multilevel system of education, combining fundamental training with practical subjects; increasing the number of necessary and perspective specialities; enlarging of material basis of the university. Realization of these principles will enable UdSU to integrate into the the changing social and economic situation and make a great jerk in its development. For the last 20 years the number of faculties has increased greatly: from 9 in 1988 to 17 in 1995 and 20 in 2006, there have been also built and put into operation new educational buildings. Nowadays UdSU is marked in the rating, done by Education Ministry of Russian Federation, as the Russian center of fundamental research in the field of unlinear mathematics and mechanics, mathematical logic, mathematical modeling, scientific engineering, producing and research of new materials, deep regional ecological research, innovation pedagogics, linguistics, multilingual culture and international relationships, development of insurance and market university economy and other research and educational directions. Today there are about 28 thousand students trained in 86 different specialties. There are 13 faculties and 7 institutes at the University. The number of teaching staff is nearly 1, 000 people, including 130 Doctors of Sciences and 460 Candidates of Sciences. There are 11 specialized academic councils for awarding candidate’s and doctor’s degrees in ecology, economics, law, psychology, pedagogics, ethnology, history, culture, linguistics of the Ural region as a whole and Udmurtia in particular. For the last 10 years the University has followed the course of creating the system of open education. This system presents a distributed structure with 5 branches that provide education for 1, 600 students. The University aims at training a new generation of specialists by using modern educational technologies and including scientific and research activities in the teaching process. Such activities are supported by the best in the Republic Internet center, computer network and computer center of up-to-date financial technologies. There is a large library that contains nearly 1 million books. The Internet centre of Udmurt State University, founded in 1997, has more facilities than others in Udmurt Republic. It manages informational support not only for UdSU, but also for industries, state departments of UR, big political and sport events. The Multimedia Centre, hosted at the University Internet centre, develops unique multimedia products. Integration into the European and world educational area is an urgent issue today. Udmurt State University has also been involved in this process. Nowadays UdSU has established academic and research partnership with various universities and institutes in Hungary, Finland, Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, South Korea, the USA, England, France, Switzerland, Canada, Spain, China, Italy, Poland, Japan. |
